The terms are often used interchangeably. Sheffield Insight Partners offers a wide range of consulting and advisory services around project and program management, business processes, and business strategy.
Consulting services are primarily around a specific task or a solving specific problem. Scope and duration are fixed, and a set of identified requirements, milestones, objectives, and acceptance criteria define "done". The scope may be changed or extended or a subsequent consulting project may arise, but requirements, tasks, durations and costs are all clearly identified.
Advisory services are more like coaching, such as providing strategic guidance on how to scale up in response to growth, or on a particular business issue or business process challenge. For example, a particular business process might be studied to optimize and improve it, and to obtain a resulting improvement - or avoid a negative impact - on downstream processes. The ability to see a clear "line of sight" through the overall process and anticipate cause-and-effect is important and is what an advisory brings to the table. Advisory services may be duration-based or retainer-based.
The duration of a consulting project varies depending on the scope and complexity of the project. We will work with you to determine a timeline that meets your needs.
